GENERAL LAC VOLUNTEER

Mission:

To provide assistance to patrons in need of legal information or resources.

Activities:


Confidentially interviews and assesses the needs of walk-in patrons or persons telephoning the LAC.
Provides legal information on court procedures, types of law, and possible options to resolve the presenting issue. Offers direction to patrons with civil pro se forms.
Guides walk-in patrons through web-based programs.
When necessary, refers patrons to community agencies, screens patron for Legal Aid.
Assists LAC staff with record keeping and patron and attorney communication.

Commitment:

Minimum commitment of six months, volunteering at least one regulalry scheduled four-hour shift per week. We will, of course, be delighted if you stay longer.

Qualifications:


Excellent listening skills
Compassion and patience
Appreciation of diverse people and cultures in the community
Able to serve one-half day each week for at least six months
Completion of half-day orientation and training
